Why Volunteer through TEFL Heaven?

teacherThe support element!  When travelling abroad independently you may find yourself confused and lacking someone to turn to for answers – not with the TEFL Heaven VTP. You will have access to one of our in-country support coordinators who will be always be close by and able to assist you with whatever you need (within reason!).

The TEFL training element! You will be training (in a paradise location we might add!) with another 20 or so like-minded people, so making friends is not hard at all.  During the training many of our TEFL Heaven Volunteers spend weekends together exploring islands or just out and about soaking up the Asian sun. With a wide range of water and land-based activities available it will be more of a case of ’which to do’ rather than ‘what to do’.

The adventure element! Part of the TEFL Heaven philosophy is that volunteering and exploring new cultures should be fun, and so we will ensure that our volunteers have lots of opportunities to explore by the planning of optional activities at the weekend.  Why do you think they call Thailand the ‘Land of Smiles’?

teacherThe life experience element! Volunteering in Thailand will give you valuable life experience. You will see how education works in a less developed country as well as receiving the opportunity to explore and embrace the Thai culture.  It will also enable you to direct, improve and develop multiple skill sets relating not only to teaching, but to many other vocations as well. This will undoubtedly lead to the opening of other avenues and an increased level of personal confidence, not to mention being a nice addition to your CV!

The teaching element Doing the Volunteer Teaching Project also allows you to have a taste of teaching before deciding if that’s what you would like to do as a career. Our volunteering positions are 4 weeks long, so just long enough to get a real feel for teaching!

The challenge! We will not lie to you - this is not an easy experience. For all the glamour and glitz that might pull you to apply, you need to understand that teaching is not easy and living in a new country, if only for a short time, will test you. Those who pass through this experience have said that it was both the best and also the hardest thing they have ever done.

This TEFL program is not for everyone. If you have a patient and adaptable personality and are one of those who can 'go with the flow', then we want you to apply. If you get stressed easily with spontaneous change, get wound up easily or lack in self-confidence then you'd best stay at home and get a slightly less adventurous job for the summer.
