Nicaragua TEFL Program Summary
This TEFL program begins with 4 weeks face-to-face TEFL training and certification in the fabulous city of Leon, and is followed by a guaranteed paid teaching job for native English speakers (no bachelor's degree required), which could be anywhere in Nicaragua!
Nicaragua has a booming TEFL market, and a low cost of living. After the TEFL training is complete you will receive your TEFL certificate, qualifying you to teach English anywhere in the world. Language centers offer most teaching jobs, so you will teach all different age groups as well as private individuals and perhaps business clients.
My TEFL Heaven experience was absolutely fantastic and I actually wish I could go back and do it all again. You are surrounded by like minded people who, like you, have been thrown in at the deep end so can really relate to what you're going through.

Key Program Details
Nicaragua is situated north of Costa Rica, and is the hub of Central America. It borders the Caribbean and Pacific Seas, so there are many hidden beaches to discover. The training centre is located around 20 minutes from the capital, Leon, on the beachfront town of Las Peñitas. You'll have plenty of time on weekends to relax and enjoy the warm, tropical climate. For the more adventurous explorer, Nicaragua is home to many volcanoes dotted along the west-coast, all within a short bus journey! Transportation throughout the country is super cheap, so you'll never be short of things to do.
Leon is rich with the vibrant Latino culture, there is always live music to be heard, art to admire, and dancing until you can't feel your feet! If it's a hot, cultural, exciting Spanish adventure you're looking for, Nicaragua can offer you the trip of a lifetime.
This program consists of 4 weeks TEFL training, which will be a mixture of daytime study and some evening work and assignments. TEFL trainers will make sure you have everything you need to become a confident teacher of English (TEFL) in Nicaragua.
Once qualified, the world is yours and you can use your TEFL certificate in other countries - there is no expiry date to the TEFL certificate. The TEFL certificate is externally accredited and accepted worldwide.
After gaining skills, making friends in this period is what it is all about. Spending so much time each day around the same people who are in the same situation means friendships solidify quickly. Everyone wants to support each other. It's one of the great benefits of starting your journey teaching abroad in this way.
During the TEFL training period, we give you all the tools, resources and contacts you need to secure a paid teaching job. Most jobs are secured within a few weeks after the course, and sometimes even shorter than that. A great benefit is to have our experienced in-country TEFL team at your disposal recommending good places to work, and where to avoid applying for jobs.
In Nicaragua, most teaching jobs are in language centers, so typically you will be teaching adults, with some younger classes, depending on the employer. It's also common to travel to corporate locations and teach company staff English, as well as have private students to tutor.
Contract lengths are for around 6 months or more. Mid January through February and July are peak hiring times, but employers do hire all year round. Salaries vary, but are around the equivalent of 300 - 600 US dollars per month, which is about how much it costs to live. Nicaragua is considered a 'break even' country. So you'll earn enough to enjoy a good standard of living, but there won't be much opportunity to save each month.
Anyone can come on this course and teach English in Nicaragua. In terms of the job placement services, through our experience we know those who are native English speaking secure jobs within 30 days after the end of the training - and in most cases this is shorter.
Those who are not native English speaking can also attend this course and for job placement we advise them to be as flexible as possible as to salary and location. Native English speaking teachers are preferred in Nicaragua, but many employers will accept non-native English speakers as long as they are fluent in English. Non-native English speakers may have to wait a little longer to get a job in their desired location.
There is no requirement to hold a bachelors degree for this program. See more about eligibility on this page.
Accommodation costs during training are anywhere from 75 USD to 500 USD for 4 weeks. You have the option of a single room, a dorm, private shared apartments and more! Our team will go through the available options with you and secure it ready for when you arrive.
After training and when you are in your teaching job, accommodation is much cheaper, most TEFL teachers pay up to 150 USD for a shared apartment or a room in a shared house. Doing the course with others helps you to make friends and it's common to share accommodation with those friends afterwards when you start your teaching jobs.
Start dates for this TEFL Program are generally every month and places fill up fast. Nicaragua is a popular location for teaching English abroad, so we suggest you apply early in order to get your desired start date.
