Thailand Koh Chang TEFL/ TESOL Program Summary

Located on the beautiful island of Koh Chang, Thailand, the training is completed over a 4-week period, during which you will learn all the theoretical and practical skills needed to teach TEFL/ TESOL effectively. In addition to this you will gain confidence and experience by engaging and teaching real students in Thai schools. This experience combined with the training will help you to feel ready and prepared to enter the exciting industry of TEFL/TESOL which has the potential to take you all over the world

This course differs from our other TEFL/ TESOL Heaven program in Thailand in so much as it’s run throughout the year meaning greater flexibility and potentially a shorter wait to get into that dream job of teaching English abroad. This is one of the very best TEFL/ TESOL courses in Thailand!

The course provided an environment that was communal and supportive. The trainees came from different backgrounds and for different reasons; though, were all learning to do the same thing- teach abroad. It was beautiful.

Complimentary accommodation during the training period, sharing with at least one other person on the course
  • check
Shorter placements if desired on this program. • check
Private Facebook group for your course and session, meaning you can connect with those already booked way before you meet them in person in Thailand
  • Lifetime worldwide job assistance from our team so you can find work in other countries after your first session teaching abroad
  • Friends come naturally on this program. There are typically 10 or more candidates on the course every month, meaning acquaintances become close friends really quickly

Thailand is Like a Magnet for Those Starting to Teach Abroad

Located in the Southeast, Koh Chang is a quieter island of Thailand, but also the 3rd largest island. "Chang" in Thai means elephant, and there is an elephant sanctuary on the island as well as many wild monkeys roaming the forests. There are also beautiful waterfalls and temples to visit.

The island has been a popular spot for TEFL Heaven training since 2011, and many candidates make Koh Chang their favorite island because of this.

There are plenty of peaceful areas to chill out and relax, or areas to get down and party.

You Will Be Fully Qualified After TEFL/ TESOL Training

This program consists of 4 weeks TEFL/ TESOL training, which will be a mixture of daytime study and some evening work and assignments. TEFL/ TESOL trainers will make sure you have everything you need to become a confident teacher of English (TEFL/ TESOL) in Thailand.

Once qualified, the world is yours and you can use your TEFL/ TESOL certificate in other countries - there is no expiry date to the TEFL/ TESOL certificate. The TEFL/ TESOL certificate is accepted worldwide.

A Time to Make Friends

After gaining skills, making friends in this period is what it is all about. Spending so much time each day around the same people who are in the same situation means friendships solidify quickly. Everyone wants to support each other. It's one of the great benefits of starting your journey teaching abroad in this way.

Finding Work is Easy Through Our TEFL/ TESOL Team

During the TEFL/ TESOL training period, we give you all the tools, resources and contacts you need to secure a paid teaching job within Thailand. Most jobs are secured within a few weeks after the course, and sometimes even shorter than that. A great benefit is to have our experienced in-country TEFL/ TESOL team at your disposal recommending good places to work, and where to avoid applying for jobs.

It's important to note that there are no jobs on Koh Chang itself and this is only where the TEFL/ TESOL training is.

School Term Dates

Term 1: Approximately early/ mid May until end of September/ start of October

Term 2: Approximately late October until end of February/ mid or end of March

Exact term dates depends on the school, so the dates above are a rough guide. If you plan on staying just one school term, please make sure you book a return flight for a date after the approximate dates above. You normally only sign a one term contract. You can renew your contract and stay for a 2nd school term, as long as your designated school is happy with your teaching.

Salary

You get paid at least 30,000 Thai Baht per month (equivalent of 920 US dollars) and living costs are about half that, meaning you can save half your salary each month (if you wanted to!). For a clearer idea of costs, one of our teachers, Katie, wrote a Thailand Salary vs. Livings Costs Guide for you.

Eligibility for the Program and Job

To be eligible for this program, you need to hold a bachelors degree in any subject (not teaching - ANY subject) and be native English speaking, or from a native English speaking country. Those who are not native English speaking or do not hold a Bachelor's degree cannot attend this course.

Jobs are secured within 30 days after the end of the training - and in most cases this is shorter.

You don't need to know or learn any Thai language as teaching is not done through the direct translation method.

Accommodation is Affordable on a Teaching Salary

Accommodation is complimentary during training.

When in placement you will be given assistance in finding accommodation, normally from the school. It will cost you the equivalent of approximately 120 US dollars each month for rent and around 30 US dollars for other bills.

Your accommodation in your teaching placement will most likely be a one room Thai–style studio apartment or a house (depending on if you are sharing) and will be quite basic: double bed, shower, bathroom, fan or air con.

You would not normally have a TV, fridge or cooking facilities – Thai people eat out for nearly every meal and the cost of living is extremely low, with street vendors nearly everywhere, so not having a cooker shouldn’t be a problem for you.

Program Fees

The full price of the this program in 2018 is £1297 UK pounds.  This gives you a 4-week long TEFL/ TESOL training certificate, meaning you can teach English and get paid anywhere in the world, as well as job assistance from our team in Thailand and worldwide lifetime job seeking assistance from TEFL Heaven.

This is split into 2 payments - a booking deposit to secure your place (after a successful Skype / FaceTime interview), and then a final payment normally due 30 days before your selected start date.

The first installment of £500 UK pounds is due when you book the program. The final installment of £747 UK pounds is due no less than 30 days before your course start date. You have to pay the first installment in US dollars, so if this is different than your own currency, please see www.xe.com for current exchange rates, which change daily.

Start Dates

On this program we assist you in finding work and this is guaranteed for all candidates. It is important to note that we give you all the tools, contacts and advice to get the job that you want, but that you have to apply for jobs.

We work on a first come, first served basis and places fill up fast, so we advise you to apply sooner rather than later.

We also advise you to arrive 4 days before the course start date to overcome jet lag.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT COURSE START DATES

  • Some schools have start and end dates that differ by a few weeks either side.
  • If you want a full term at a school, you can either renew after the first teaching period, or go on our other Thailand program, details of which are here.
  • *If you choose a course start dates that have school terms ending 30 Sept or 28 Feb then this means that you will join a school mid-term after training and will be able to have a shorter placement, with the option to renew for a second term.
  • **Some courses end with a large gap between TEFL/ TESOL training end dates and job start dates. There may be temporary work available like English camps or private teaching work, but generally candidates explore the country until the term starts.
  • You are advised to keep funds ready for living expenses until you get paid, and more if you choose a course date with a gap between course ending and job starting.

Reasons Why This Program is Popular

  • Flexible start dates that fit into your yearly schedule, meaning you can arrive in Thailand whenever you want in the year.
  • Shorter placements are available due to jobs starting mid term on most start dates.
  • Longer period in training (4 weeks rather than 3 weeks), meaning more time to befriend people, get used the country and culture, prepare for teaching, and enjoy island life.
quote-left

One of the best benefits of booking a trip through TEFL Heaven was that you have an immediate support system. Having the friends you make through TEFL has been one of the things that has gotten me through this trip. It's also amazing to receive advice and tips from your trainers who have been here at least 6 months
