The Czech Republic, known for its extravagant castles and native beers, is bordered by Germany, Poland and Austria. The country is almost entirely surrounded by mountains and is the second richest Eastern European country. Bohemia and Moravia, the two ancient lands, form the modern Czech Republic. Bohemia is a popular destination for biking, surrounded by man-made lakes and historic towns. Moravia is popular with hikers and is home to six UNESCO-protected sites.

The Czech Republic has mild, humid summers with occasional hot spells and cold, cloudy and humid winters. The coldest month is January with the average temperature falling below 0 °C and the hottest month being July with temperatures averaging 30 °C.
